The Procedure
Fat can be harvested from any part of the body and injected into another part of the body. The procedure is carried out under local anesthesia in about an hour. Using a specially designed blunt needle, the fat is harvested from the body (abdomen, thighs, knees, etc.), and then using another blunt needle, the fat is injected in a specific way into the desired area until the desired outcome is achieved. Because the needles used for this procedure are blunt, there is minimal discomfort and less risk of bruising.
Recovery
After the treatment there will be some mild swelling and possibly some redness. Bruising is unlikely in the injected area. There is very little to no discomfort in the injected area, except mild soreness (much like after a good workout) in the area that the fat was harvested from which usually resolves within 2 weeks. Swelling goes down noticeably in 1-3 days in the injected area. Most patients do not require pain medications and are able to resume their normal routine the very next day.
